In order to support modern D2C and B2B sales platforms at Ultra PRO, we needed to move to a modern ERP. We chose ERPNext as it is highly customizable and extensible in a multi-year effort to modernize Ultra PRO’s business capabilities.
A critical business application was used as the main CPQ for most of Arcadia, and it suffered from extreme performance constraints. I launched an investigation into the cause to reduce cost and waste, leading to the creation of a new RDS cluster so that the performance ceiling would be aligned with the number of employees.
Ultra PRO was suffering from a lack of available IP space on their corporate network. This resulted in issues of IP conflicts and DHCP timeouts. The end result was a secure, scalable network design that allowed for many more devices, had backup WAN and faster uplinks.
Ultra PRO was using several different NAS devices, old servers repurposed as file servers and Dropbox. Data disorganized and duplicated across teams. I determined we could reduce our server footprint and leverage Dropbox for file storage, later migrating that to Google Drive to reduce cost and redundancies.
Ultra PRO made several acquisitions during my tenure and I was tasked with ensuring data and services were migrated to our eCommerce, ERP and SaaS platforms. We also replaced their infrastructure with our standard network, security camera and door access stacks.
Ultra PRO needed a way of tracking issues, so I deployed a ticketing system. I worked with stakeholders to ensure smooth communications to their teams and provided training. With the ticketing system we were able to track details, see patterns in issues and more quickly resolve outages. I was able to set SLAs and build reports on KPIs for executives.
Arcadia had all critical servers virtualized on two stand-alone ESXi servers, with no way for maintenance and no failure tolerance. The end result was a scalable, resilient solution that allowed for maintenance, a managed hypervisor and the DRS service which would automate migrations between servers based on performance needs.
D.A.Davidson needed to re-image over a thousand workstations to upgrade them from Windows 7 x86 to Windows 7 x64 in order to accommodate a critical application. I leveraged LANDesk to synchronize workstation images to laptops used by members of IT, who then went onsite to use each as a temporary imaging server for each site. Each location had a file server, so I devised a method where we designated each as a distribution server for application packages. We were then able to use LAN bandwidth instead of WAN for application installations.
